On the way to Goris Zangezur , my predecessors Native land ,
when each hill and mount inspiring me and could tell us a lot about
past ages, where air and lakes are really crystal pure.
The most mountainous region of Armenia - Zangezur is an ideal
destination for all the lovers of history, nature, high and rough
montains, deep canyons, deep mountainous forests. Zagenzur region
starts from Sisian, which is a town located in the heart of the
mountains of Zangezur. |

|
It is a pleasant town at the confluence of
the Vorotan and Sisian rivers. In the museum garden there are a
series of medieval sheep-shaped tombstones, some with Persian
inscriptions. The 7th century church of St. Gevorg rests on a hill
overlooking the center of town. The streets in Sisian are lined with
poplar trees, while in the distance rugged mountains rise. Besides
its wonderful nature and old historical buildings Sisian attracts
many tourists with its attracting big stones, which are thought to
be of the same origin as the Britain "Stone Hang" supposed to be an
ancient observatory. Our guide will lead you to see all these
wonders in Sisan to acquaint you with its history.
Goris sprawls out along the gorge of the Goris River. |

Goris
is a graceful and beautiful town surrounded by wonderful gardens.
Goris is famous for its cave-dwellings carved out of the soft rock
in the southern part of town. There are two museums here: one
regional and the other Axel Bakunts house museum, commemorating one
of Armenia's great prose writers. The nature in Goris is
astonishing, it has rather rough mountains, from where mineral
drinkable water springs down.
Tatev Monastery is located on the edge of a deep canyon.
From here there is a spectacular view, which takes your breath away
as the canyon is very deep and the ground cannot be seen. Tatev
Monastery housed 600 monks, philosophers, musicians, painters,
calligraphers, and all the other accoutrements of a center of
culture and learning. Next to the Monastery you will see the "Satine
Bridge" which seems to be not earthy. It is said to be built by
nature over the gorge. |
